In May 2026, St Thomas More College, Maria Goretti Middle School, Tarxien welcomed the Ambassador of France to Malta as part of the celebrations marking European Youth Week. Accompanying the ambassador were Ms Doreen Farrugia, Education Officer for French, and Ms Maria Elena Despott, Head of the European Commission Representation in Malta.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students studying French to engage directly with distinguished guests and practise their language skills in an authentic setting alongside their French teacher. During the session, students confidently interacted with the ambassador, asking questions in French about her personal experiences, diplomatic career, daily life as an ambassador, and her connection with Malta.  The ambassador praised the students for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and excellent effort in communicating in French. The lively exchange created an enjoyable and inspiring atmosphere for everyone present.  Following the student interaction, the ambassador met briefly with the school administration for a discussion on language learning and cultural exchange initiatives, after which refreshments were served.

The visit was both productive and enjoyable, leaving students and staff with a memorable experience that further highlighted the importance of multilingualism, intercultural dialogue, and European collaboration.
