International Night April 2024:

The National Sport School, Pembroke

Language week at the National Sport School

During the week starting Monday 22nd April, several activities were held at the National Sport School to celebrate the four foreign languages taught at this school; that is German, French, Italian and Spanish.  Each day was dedicated to a different language.  Wednesday 24th April was German Day.  During breaktime, students listened to German popular songs and enjoyed some typical German food.  However, the German language and culture were not only celebrated on this day, but all week long through various activities.

A display with various objects related to the German language and culture was set up on Monday in the school foyer.

On Tuesday, all year 8 students took part in a karaoke, during which they sang German songs and others in the other languages.

On Wednesday, year 9 students of German and Spanish enjoyed time at a reading cafeteria.  All students sat down comfortably reading a book in the language they learn.  At the same time, they were served a warm drink and some biscuits.

On Thursday, year 7 students of German prepared a typical German breakfast, which they ate in the school yard together with the students of Italian, who had prepared a typical Italian breakfast.

On Friday, year 10 students of German had a quiz about German culture.  For every correct answer they won a small bag of Gummibärchen – gummy bears produced in Germany.
